Hi Everyone,
I promised you that we were going to be talking about Zombie books, and I’m glad to say that we have all sorts of interesting Undead Stories this summer! Here are some of the best zombie books we’ve gotten to read lately. Be aware, most of these can get pretty graphic at times, its hard to talk about Zombies without things getting pretty gory at times! But as long as that doesn’t bother you, we’ve got some great stories for you to sink your teeth into… so to speak.
Zombies Don’t Cry
It’s not every story that starts out like this: Emily Swift is a high school student on her way to a party when she gets struck by lightning and turned into a zombie. She’s not your typical rotting, shuffling zombie out for nothing more than brains though. Now her life is complicated with new rules that help ensure that she can pass herself off as one of the living. Add to that that some zombies do turn into brain-seeking monsters known as ‘zerkers, and that Emily has to help fight.. AND keep up with school and her social life all at the same time!
Forest of Hands and Teeth
Most Zombie stories start with the Outbreak, where zombies first start showing up and biting people. This story starts much later, after most of the world has become infected. The story revolves around Mary, who has grown up in the relative safety of her village’s fences. After her mother is bitten and turned into one of the undead, Mary’s world is turned upside down as she starts to lose control of her life. This is just the beginning though.. before long we see even more zombie trouble and lots of thrilling action and near escapes. Expect nail-biting suspense and intense action as our heroes try to stay alive!
Rot & Ruin
Here’s another story where the presence of Zombies has become normal in the world of the story. In this tale of the undead, by the time you are 15, you must have a job or else they start cutting your food rations in half. Benny is getting very close to his 15th birthday, but he’s having a really hard time keeping down a job. In the end he reluctantly apprentices himself to his older brother Tom, who everyone looks up to as a brave zombie-killer. Heading out into the dangerous wilderness, Benny finds that there’s a whole world of surprises out there for them, and yes, it’s filled with zombies and even worse things.
Zombies vs. Unicorns
This book is a collection of short stories, and definitely on the lighter side of Zombie fiction. These stories attempt to answer simple if unusual question of: “Which is better: Zombies or Unicorns?” There are plenty of laughs and frights alike contained within, but we’ll leave the decision of who the real winner is up to you!
These are just some of the newest and most interesting zombie fiction that we’ve seen lately. Do you know a good story that involves Zombies? Hop on over to our online book club and post about it, or drop by the library and let us know in person!
